LIKE A HUMAN BEING AGAIN
VERSE 1
Drifter with a sign, eyein’ me down
Had a conversation never makin’ a sound
Beggin’ everyone to help him out
At least his sign said “please”
I’d seen signs like that before
Continued on to the grocery store
To get a few things I’d need
My thoughts turned to the sign that reads
CHORUS
Please help me get back on my feet
Get off of this street
Eat a home cooked meal with a friend
And feel
Like a human being again

He was still there later that day
Wondered what he might have to say
I opened the door and invited him in
He smelled like hell and he was thin
Asked him why he was out there
And why he was there most every day
Whether he thought it was workin’
He fought back the tears to say

Lost it all a while ago
Tornado hit
We weren’t insured
My wife and kids didn’t make it
So on this sign I wrote these words

I like the way you take this from a somewhat cynical to a heartfelt lyric.
A nice payoff at the end and the realization that "there but for the Grace of God go I".

Thank you all for such warm comments on this write. Yesterday I was approached by a killer vocalist/guitarist on another site and asked if (he) could demo it.
